Working in partnership with Walking with the Wounded (WWTW) and the The Royal Foundation (RF), Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) was the pilot site for Step into Health. The programme offers service personnel who are in the process of transitioning from service to civilian life, and veterans, the opportunity to gain an understanding of the NHS and the career opportunities it offers. The NNUH is now the National Lead for the programme.
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) provides healthcare for over 900,000 people every year. As an acute hospital we offer specialist care for patients who need treatment for conditions that cannot be dealt with in the community. More than 60 different categories of professionals work at the hospital and we employ over 7,000 staff.
With more than 300 different careers opportunities within the NHS, including many non-clinical careers within management and administration services, there is a range of opportunities available.
The Step into Health programme has been recognised by the hospital as an excellent opportunity to meet service personnel, identify their experience, their transferable skills, strong working ethos and values that they bring with them after their experience during their military careers.
The information day will introduce delegates to the NHS, the hospital, Serco our facilities provider, specialist services and opportunities available. Attendance at the day will give delegates the opportunity to meet and network with professionals working in different areas across the Hospital. Links can also be made at the session to the options available through local Higher Education Institute with regard to personal and professional development opportunities.
After attending one of our information days delegates will be given the opportunity to complete a bespoke work experience placement of up to four weeks in an agreed area(s) enabling them to identify potential career opportunities and transferable skills to aid their transition to civilian employment.
